Roles for the Manager Credit Job

We are looking for a Credit Manager to oversee our SACCO’s lending process, from evaluating clients’ creditworthiness to approving or rejecting loan requests.

Researching and evaluating clients’ creditworthiness

Creating credit scoring models to predict risks

Approving or rejecting loan requests, based on credibility and potential revenues and losses and as per set guidelines.

Credit Manager’s responsibilities include creating credit scoring models, setting loan terms and determining interest rates. To be successful in this role, you should have a degree in Accounting or Finance along with experience processing loan applications. Previous banking experience is a plus.

Ultimately, you will help us minimize bad debts and increase revenues from loans.

Reporting to the Principal Officer Credit, the job holder will ensure that loan recoveries are implemented on time, following up on loans in arrears and communicating with the members and guarantors to ensure that loan payments are implemented effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Research and evaluate clients’ creditworthiness
  • Create credit scoring models to predict risks
  • Approve or reject loan requests, based on credibility and potential revenues and losses
  • Negotiate loan terms with clients as per guidelines.
  • Monitor payments regularly.
  • Maintain records of loan applications
  • Follow up with clients to manage debt settlements and loan renewals
  • Ensure all lending procedures comply with regulations
  • Develop, review and update our company’s credit policies in line with the market trends.
  • Ensuring new loans submitted for recovery are deducted timely.
  • Monitoring and rehabilitating delinquent accounts.
  • Put in place mechanisms of managing arrears and defaulted loans to ensure healthy portfolio at all times.
  • Monitor and send notices to delinquent members and make prompt follow ups on the same.
  • Ensure SACCO debts are recovered timely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate daily execution of debt follow up by phone, SMS, mail and visits.
  • Negotiate repayment plans with delinquent cases (members).
  • Address any member complaints conclusively within the stipulated time arising out of interaction with the defaulters.
  • Maintain an updated database of all assigned accounts and collections with specific dates.
  • Submit detailed reports to the Principal Officer Credit on a weekly basis accounting for impact of his/her activities on general Loan Book.

Credit Manager Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Accounting, Economics, Banking and Finance or relevant field
  • Diploma in Cooperative Management is an added advantage.
  • Proven work experience of over 3 years in Credit in related  field preferably in a SACCO, MFI, Bank
  • Solid understanding of lending procedures
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to create and process financial spreadsheets (e.g. in Excel).
  • Good communication and negotiation skills.

Job Type:         Commission Based

Location:         Thika and environs

Key Duties

In this position, you will:
a) Participate in product campaigns to ensure product information is readily available to customers.

  1. b) Conduct door-to-door direct selling activities and accounts activations.
  2. c) Provide excellent customer service for existing customers
  3. d) Seek customer feedback on SACCO products.
  4. e) Sell various financial products offered by the SACCO
  5. f) Provide regular Sales reports.

The Ideal Competences
Based in Thika and its environs the candidates should meet the following requirements

Minimum qualifications;

  1. a) At least a Diploma in a Business Field
    b) Must be very good in oral communication with ability to convince and persuade
  2. c) At least one year sales work experience selling financial products or insurance
    d) To be a clear and concise communicator in English, both verbally and written, is essential.
  3. e) Training in customer service and sales will be an added advantage
  4. f) Work history of being dependable, reliable and going the extra mile to achieve targets

 

Essential competences

  1. a) Highly motivated attitude to achieving sales targets with a proven track record
    b) Natural ability to engage easily and build rapport quickly in face to face interaction
  2. c) Proven ability to persuade, negotiate and inspire confidence in customers
  3. d) Ability to work under strict sales targets and deadlines
